My little man Miles just turned three two days ago, so I dedicate this post to him! Three-year-old boys are full of fun and vigor and adventure! After sharing first year baby must haves for Sawyer’s birthday, I thought it’d be great to share 10 affordable gifts for a 3-year-old boy … with a couple bonus gifts that range a little higher!
An answer to prayer …
Miles was an answer to prayer for us. As with any adoption, you yearn and go after a child. It doesn’t just happen on its own. It’s something you make happen. After Harper, our daughter, and first adoption in 2016, we were ready in early 2018 to move forward again.
We knew God would open the right doors and bring us the child he meant for our family. We didn’t know if he’d give us a boy or a girl, but our hearts were open. We renewed our Home Study and in May of 2018 we went in arms wide open and praying for whoever God would bring to us.
The big call!
On Ben’s birthday that year, we got the call that we were chosen for a baby boy due early July! We couldn’t be happier and we had a month to prepare! Miles was born in Florida and we were there waiting and ready … we got to the hospital as soon as we could and I just held that baby boy and my heart was stolen.
Harper loved having a baby brother and Miles was a perfect addition to our family. He’s a super sweet boy who loves hugs. He likes to make us laugh. He is sensitive, sweet and amazing. I thank God every day that he entrusted Miles to our care to raise him. And I think his birth mother for choosing us.

10 affordable gifts for a 3-year-old boy
So, without further ado … here are my picks for the top 10 affordable gifts for a 3-year-old boy!
1 – Mega Mighties. These things are cost friendly, larger sized for a 3-year-old and there are a variety of super heroes and actions figures to choose from! We have black Spider-Man, Hulk and red Spider-Man. I’m sure we’ll be getting more at some point!
2 – Paw Patrol anything. You Can’t go wrong with Paw Patrol at this age. Miles is obsessed with all things Paw Patrol. I purchased a lot of toys from another mother on Facebook marketplace and it was a super deal! Some Paw Patrol toys to consider for your 3-year-old are a Paw Patrol truck and track, the Headquarters, or a watch. Of course, in addition to all the individual cars and figures for each character! I mean, check out this Chase cruiser … now that’s cool!
3 – Vtech Marshall Treat Time. Okay, so this is technically a Paw Patrol toy, but I put it on its own since it’s a fun and educational toy for a 3-year-old. Miles actually got this for his birthday and he’s having fun feeding Marshall the right letter treat!
4 – Batman Remote Control Car. My 3-year-old nephew has this remote control car and it’s PERFECT for this age group. Works well, easy to navigate and even cooler that it’s Batman.
5 – Legos. Three-year-olds are a bit of a forgotten age for Legos. They are a bit big for Duplo legos, but a bit young for Lego’s recommended ages for other sets. I’m a fan of this Duplo Marvel Legos set or this Construction set that states its for 4+ … so make sure it’s supervised!

6 – Bubble Wand. There are a lot of options for bubble wands, but Miles has always loved the dinosaur ones. Really can’t go wrong with dinosaurs for this age. I recommend playing with these outside … but they are super fun!
7 – Dinosaurs with sound book. I got this for Miles at Christmas and he thought it was pretty cool! With this set, you get 12 dinosaurs with a book that provides the matching sounds. Who doesn’t love playing with dinosaurs?!
8 – Spider-Man Car Launcher. Boys love Hot Wheels. This toy brings in a beloved super hero, Spiderman, and cars! I got Miles this for Christmas and it’s a favorite of his and any of his friends that come to visit. GRANDMA’s – this is an EASY win for you!
9 – Balance Bike. This one is priced a bit higher than some of the other toys, but balance bikes are great for kids to first learn biking. You can always grab these used at garage sales or the marketplace, too. They will equate to loads of fun for your growing boy! Oh, and don’t forget a helmet!
10 – Scooter. Three wheeled scooters are PERFECT for the 2–4-year-old boy! They are pretty reasonable in price and will keep him busy for hours. They roll good in the house, if you allow that kind of thing … haha! Lots of color options, too. Again, grab a helmet with this present, too!
Bonus Gift Ideas for a 3-year-old boy!
Bonus #1 – Ride on cars. 6V and 12 V or a bumper car! Three-year-old boys loves cars and trucks! You can grab a 6V or 12 V ride on car. The 12 V will be a bit faster and cost a bit more, but either option will be a win for your three-year-old.
Bonus #2 – Bumper Cars. That’s right, you can purchase your own sent of bumper cars! These things are pretty awesome, I need to buy some! Especially perfect for that toddler sibling rivalry? Hmmm? Amazon has several options, but go with the Kidzone brand. They are solid and have great ratings. Let me know if you try these!
