Hey, hey, hey! Here we already are well into May and time is just flying by! My daughter is just about done with Pre-K, we are planning a trip end of this month and I’m almost another year older….EEEK! With all this on my mind and my lovely Entry Way reveal the other day, I thought I might as well makeover my Drop Zone, aka mudroom, too! Why not? We need it to be cohesive with the entry way and I love a good, easy, small project … so I decided to do an upcoming drop zone project as well!
Party of FIVE!
A family of five definitely needs sufficient area to place school bags, coats, helmets, and whatever else tends to appear at the area nearest the garage door. As you can see, our existing drop area is nice, but really suited for two people. I need to fix that!
Hooks, Hooks & More Hooks!
First, I need to add more hanging storage. Hooks, hooks and more hooks, is what I say! However, I want to do it in a tasteful way as to not overpower the area with hooks, hooks, everywhere! HA! I would also like to bring in some of the peel and stick wallpaper I did in my laundry room. This bigger wall is opposite the laundry wall I did in wallpaper and I think it would look nice to match it to bring in some design cohesiveness.
I think I’ll bring another layer of hooks in under the existing hooks against the cubby wall and maybe carry that layer over the longer wall. Meaning, a piece of wood as a divider with hooks on them. On the wall side I can do wallpaper above the wood divider and paint on the bottom portion. Not sure if I’ll do the bottom portion of the wall white or Rainwashed (from Sherwin Williams), since I used that color in my entry way above the board and batten.
Utilize the cubbies better ….
I also need to utilize the cubbies better. I don’t really utilize them today. We have a bike helmet and a couple balls in there, but that’s about it. I could find some storage boxes to bring in, if I find something I like in the correct size. A bulletin board or wall cubby area might work too. I have a few options around the house that I’ll have to see how they work out for this drop zone.
This is a small room, but it’s a core part of our existence! We go in and out of the garage to our van constantly and NEED enough space to store our life stuff! The way it is today is just not working out!
All the STUFF!
Take Sawyer, for instance … he has a diaper bag, a school bag, a coat and a jacket. Harper has a bike helmet, backpack, balls and a lovely pink and white Broncos hat. Miles has a backpack and a school back … not to mention his jackets and balls and hats, too. Then of course Ben and I have jackets and bags and what-nots, too! And can’t forget about winter hats and mittens and dog leashes!
I’m surer excited for this project. It’ll transform the way we enter and exit our home and give me clutter piece of mind!
