Hello all! I’m back with an amazing dresser makeover I did a couple years ago. This thing turned out GEORGEOUS and I can’t wait to show you! But first, I’m sure you notice this blog post didn’t come out Monday … but Wednesday. Well, Wednesday is my new blog day. It’ll be your mid-week fun … haha! Labor Day!
Monday was Labor Day, so I hope you all enjoyed some time off from labor … and for those who didn’t get the pleasure of a day off, hope you can take one off soon and get some well needed rest!
We did a fun day with the kids on Labor Day. Started early by grabbing bagels at Panera Bread (our favorite!). Then we played at our church park for about fifteen minutes before we had to get going for the big surprise … seeing the Paw Patrol movie in theatre! Afterwards we napped and made banana bread and had a nice dinner. It was a good day!
Extra tooth?
Anyway, before I get to the nitty gritty, I’ve got to show you my youngest son’s tooth. The last couple week’s he’s been extra fussy at random times or waking up and whining in his sleep multiple times a night. I just assumed normal teething and I saw a molar starting to come in. So, I figured that was it. Then a few days ago, I happened to catch a glimpse of something behind is top front teeth and lo and behold, there was another tooth behind perpendicular to his other tooth. Definitely has to be an extra tooth, right?
We go to the dentist today to check it out, so I’m not sure what the options will be. It’s definitely bothering him so it may have to go. It also appears to be pushing his one took forward a bit. Oy. This kid. I’ll update you on the prognosis next week.
Harper Update!
Otherwise, after our Covid bout, things have been pretty quiet. Harper is dealing with some sort of throat infection that’s going away now that she’s on antibiotics. She had complained off and on about her throat feeling weird for over a week and finally I looked at it … the tonsils were soooo swollen and her uvula (thing hanging down in the back of the throat) was connected to one of the tonsils. Swelling has gone down a bit and it’s looking much better now!
Mr. Miles!
And all is well with Miles … his HSP disease hasn’t flared up for weeks and his kidneys are looking good. He is going to play soccer in a few weeks and he can’t wait. So thankful he is doing well and is super healthy right now! Can’t wait to see him in his soccer outfit. Of course, I’ll share a picture when that happens!

Simple makeover of a $25 dresser ….
Ok, so back to my simple makeover of a $25 dresser! I saw this dresser on FaceBook and knew I needed to score it. Solid wood, old school wood on wood drawers, dovetailed drawers and so much personality. The lady I got it from was probably in her 50’s and she said it was hers as a little girl. So, I wanted to bring some life into this piece.

Unfortunately, I can’t find the full before photo. I only have this one with the drawers out … but, it gives you an idea of what it looked like.
Design Debate …
The biggest part is deciding what color scheme you want for a dresser you are making over. There are a myriad of options. Girly in pink, strapping in blue, cute in white with accent colors, or anything you can imagine.
I recently had painted Sherwin Williams Deep Sea Dive in our guest room and fell in the LOVE with the color. So, I thought why not try that on this amazing $25 dresser! And that was my plan … as you’ll read, it morphed into more!
Gotta get this dresser started …
I first stripped down the dresser: drawers out, hardware off, and wiped it clean. I then did a bit of rough sanding before another quick wipe down. Next, I got out my trusty primer and primed the entire shell and the dressers. Once the primer dried, I gave it another quick wipe and started on my first coat of Deep Sea Dive. Remember, I always use Sherwin Williams Surface paint for my dresser projects.
Being a darker color, I had to do four thin coats of Deep Sea Dive to give it a rich color. Something about this color just makes me happy!
Needs more depth!
As I was looking at the dresser, I felt it needed more depth to it than just the Deep Sea Dive color. So, I took a black glaze and gingerly wiped it on and directly off. I didn’t let it sit; it was taken off immediately. This gave some depth in the cracks to the dresser and really helped the Deep Sea Dive look deeper. And then I remembered that the white dresser had some gold accents … but gold wouldn’t work too well with this dresser.
I had to think … what would look good? I had just bought some Copper paint for a project I wanted to try so I thought maybe copper would be the perfect pairing to Deep Sea Dive? I took out a small paintbrush I had on hand. I’m talking about small like one you use for painting on paper.
I then went over the accents with copper. It took two coats, but it really brought life to this dresser. I even did a thin line around the top of the dresser and around the sides of the drawer fronts. I wasn’t too picky how even it was. It was meant to have a brushed on feel that was natural.
Black glaze … yes, please!
After the Deep Sea Dive paint, the black glaze and the copper accents, it was time to clear coat the dresser to protect it. I used a flat clear coat and did several coats with light sanding in between. The more I clear coated it, the more I fell in love with this dresser.
Hardware update …
Before this dresser could be called done, I had to update the hardware. The existing hardware was in good shape, just not a good color match for this new beauty! So, I got some copper spray paint and updated the hardware! It brought out the copper accents even more and finished this extravagant piece!
Listing for sale …
With deep angst, I listed it for sale and was able to get $160 for it. Definitely worth the investment of $25 and some labor! I had really wanted to keep this dresser but I didn’t have anywhere to put it and I knew it deserved a home where it would be used often. And that’s exactly what it found … an amazing home with person who appreciated its age and it’s new found beauty. Such a simple makeover of a $25 dresser!
I gotta say, this was one of my favorite dresser makeovers … I can’t wait to share more that I’ve done with you!
