I recently did quite the undertaking and updated the design in all three of my kid’s bedrooms … so of course their bathroom needed a design update as well! Harper’s room turned out lovely in gold and pink, Sawyer’s baby superhero room is too adorable for words and the upcoming reveal of Miles’ sports bedroom is just too cool for words! I already showed you how to frame a bathroom mirror, which is part of this kid’s bathroom … but now I want to show the full bathroom! This simple kid’s farmhouse bathroom design is easy to replicate with very little cost!
As I’ve mentioned before, we purchased this house as a new build in July 2019. With all new builds there is a myriad of flat paint to cover and I’m slowly getting there! Flat paint is sooooo not kid friendly. Something hits the wall and it’s a permanent mark. No wiping food or anything off the walls, water leaves marks … flat paint is just a nightmare!
Check out this before of the kid’s bathroom … kinda plain and boring, right? Ok, so I didn’t get a super good picture, but you get the feel.
So, first thing I did was choose a color for the kid’s bathroom. Since I had painted the laundry room in Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams, I thought it would also be a good color for the kid’s bathroom. It’s bright and shiny, but isn’t overkill. This color just makes me happy.
Décor!
Next, I needed some décor. I wanted some shelves on a wall to the left of the sink, up and away from the kids where I could put a towel, Kleenex and other items that don’t need sticky fingers on them. I also needed an easy access toilet paper holder area and a place for wipes … again, cause it’s a kid’s bathroom. BUT, this bathroom is also a guest bathroom on our main floor if people come over. So, I needed this space to be kid friendly yet also nice enough for guests!
I updated the shower curtain to fit my farmhouse bathroom design theme and then perused Amazon for some bathroom prints that would work with my vibe. I found super cute whale ones that were perfect! Then I ordered those and some frames and was getting ready to commence this super simple kid’s farmhouse bathroom design.
I also ordered a farmhouse wash your hands wall piece for the wall inside the bathroom and a funny restroom one for the bathroom door. Guests definitely need to see something cute on the door so they knew which room is the bathroom!
Painting commences!
Once I received all my décor items in the mail, I went ahead and started painting the walls in my Rainwashed color. It didn’t take too long to paint, but it made me realize how tall our ceilings actually were. Whew! It was harder getting the ceiling above the tub, but I made it work and quickly finished the painting portion of this kid’s farmhouse bathroom design.
Framing the mirror
Next up was the frame for the bathroom mirror. You can read detailed about it here, but basically I got a piece of MDF painted it (definitely check out my painting technique for this bathroom mirror frame!) and then used liquid nails to attach it to the mirror. Definitely made the room look like a million bucks!
Putting the pieces together
I hung the shelves and baskets, the farmhouse wall décor and placed my 8”x10” prints in their frames and got them hung. Switched out the shower curtain, updated the bathroom floor rug and this simple kid’s farmhouse bathroom design was done!
